Hey, homeowners! Did you know you can be rewarded for making eco-friendly HVAC purchases for your home?
That’s right. Energy Star’s program offers tax credits for everything from heating and cooling systems to insulation and solar power. Cha-ching!
But before you start counting your savings, there are a few things you need to know. First of all, this year’s tax credits only apply to Energy-Star-certified equipment purchased in the tax year 2022 (or, if you bought it before that, you could still get the credits, but you’ll need to file an amended return because your purchase applied for that tax year).
OR, you can buy equipment NOW and cash in on these sweet savings next tax season because the rebates will be available until 2032!
Let’s discuss what kind of equipment qualifies for these tax credits. Anything Energy-Star-approved and purchased during the qualifying period can earn you some serious cash. We’re talking furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, water heaters, boilers, insulation, roofing, doors/windows, and solar power.
For example, a qualifying gas furnace with a 95 AFUE or higher can get you a $600 tax credit, while a qualifying air conditioner with a SEER rating of 14 or higher can also earn you a $600 tax credit. And if you purchase home insulation, metal/asphalt roofing, or Energy-Star-approved doors and windows, you could be eligible for a tax credit of 10% of the cost, up to $500.
But wait, there’s more! For heat pumps, you could be eligible for even more tax credits. You could get up to $2,000 back. Put that toward your next vacation!!
So, if you’ve already purchased qualifying equipment and are ready to start saving some serious cash, head over to the Energy Star website to learn more.
